Celebrating 10 Years of Marriage

Today is our 10 year wedding anniversary. The evening was very different from the rowdy, Bronx, Italian food fest we had 10 years ago. This is how it went down…

Brendan came home from work a little early and we wanted to do something to celebrate but weren’t sure if we should all go out to dinner, or call in for food and eat a quiet meal, just the two of us, after the kids went to bed. Brendan really wanted to go out and I wasn’t sure which I preferred so out to a restaurant we went. We went to the Yard House, a restaurant I had never been to. It was loud and full of young professionals doing their happy hour thing. It made me reminisce about how much fun I had going to happy hour with my girlfriends back when I was working at Disney and it made me realize how different my life is now that I have three kids. Brendan, like an old man, commented on how it was a young crowd.

Dinner didn’t last very long as Gigi whined on and off throughout it, our oldest had to poop but wouldn’t use the public bathroom, and the middle child started crying due to major belly pain and didn’t even eat. The kids were unraveling at a very quick pace so I took two of the girls out to get fresh air while Brendan waited to pay the bill, skipping dessert. We got home at about 7:30 and the belly-acher wanted to snuggle on the couch so we all watched Spookly the Square Pumpkin. Did I mention this is our 10 year wedding anniversary?

After that it was bedtime for the girls; the older two, who act as if every night is a big slumber party, didn’t stop chit chatting until about 9 and the baby for some reason couldn’t settle down either so Brendan and I took shifts until 9:30. Good thing we didn’t decide to go with plan B and order in otherwise we wouldn’t have eaten until midnight. But I’m not complaining! It’s a little crazy but I’m thankful that our craziness is minor craziness like what we had this evening. Down syndrome taught me to laugh at things like that. Down syndrome also made me realize that things could be a lot more serious. 10 years later I have a wonderful husband and three amazing girls.

October is Down syndrome awareness month. This month I am participating in a blog challenge for Down syndrome awareness. Yes, this particular post is not really about Down syndrome, but you can click the link below to see a list of more blogs posting for Down syndrome awareness during the month of October…

  1. Sounds like a perfect anniversary! And maybe I am mistaken, but I do think the gift for 10 years together is in fact sitting on the couch w everybody watching the spooky square pumpkin!
